1963... The Bronx... and, in the lyrics of Bob Dylan, "The Times, they are a changin' ". The Wanderers is far more than just a rock and roll teen movie, its an examination of racism, of differences, of unity, of the end of an era, and of bonding in the face of adversity. Its also a hell of a lot of fun. One of the most popular rental releases in the early years of video rentals, The Wanderers, together with The Warriors, headlined many a rental wishlist amongst the young, who enjoyed the violent confrontations, and the middle-aged, who loved the perfectly selected 60s rock and roll soundtrack. There are a great many comic sequences to enjoy here without crossing the line into teen comedy tedium, sexual liaison and (unfortunate) consequence, and, of course, one of the greatest on screen "scraps" ever filmed as the high school gangs, black, white,  and Chinese, all unite to battle the invasive hordes of Irish Ducky Boys who decide to decimate their football match. A classic of epic proportions; highly recommended.
