Broke, out of work and recently divorced Mike (Darren McGavin) accepts a job as a car repossession agent. His life becomes a hilarious series of misadventures and minor disaster as he does it the hard way, learning the tricks of the trade of snatching overdue cars back from overheated owners who will often do anything to stop him doing his job. In the middle of all this he falls into the clutches of Gloria (Joan Collins) a voluptuous, rapacious broad with more than just a car ride on her mind. All seems well until one of his fellow repo agents bursts into Gloria's bedroom to repossess Gloria's unpaid-for Trans Am, and Mike finds himself in a position that requires a lot of explaining.
