Synopsis

The Rose is a heroine of her time: a phenomenally successful performer whose small-town background has left her without the emotional security needed to cope with her public acclaim. A composite portrait if many popular singers of the 1960's, The Rose tells of a young, talented and self-destructive artiste whose affairs and triumphs never satisfy her lonely restlessness. Hiding her vulnerability behind an awesome stage presence, she becomes herself only when she feels an audience's love overwhelming her. When expectations created by the atmosphere of freedom fail to become reality, her heart-break becomes the story of her generation.
