Synopsis

"WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE DETECTIVE WRITER'S IMAGINATION BECOMES A FRIGHTENING REALITY?"
Set in San Francisco in 1928, Dashiell "Sam" Hammett ex-private investigator turned crime writer (played by Frederic Forrest), is approached by an old buddy from his Pinkerton days (Peter Boyle), and asked to repay a favour by assisting in an investigation. With his only clue a missing chinese girl called Crystal Ling (Lydia Lei), Hammett engages in a lengthy search for information which leads him through the sleazy world of drugs, prostitution, blackmail and murder. A suspense thriller truly in a twenties style with a 1980's treatment that pays tribute to the brilliant direction of the young German, Wim Wenders.
