Synopsis

Hammersmith, master criminal and nut, is out... watch out.
He wants power and riches and doesn't care how he gets them. He would kill his own grandmother for the price of a phone call, if he ever escapes from that asylum... watch out. Helped to freedom by the floozy waitress Jimmie Jean, Hammersmith gleefully sets off on an orgy of mindless crime and violence that sees him bludgeon his way into the world of big business, presidential campaigns and international diplomacy. The results are catastrophic... surely this time he has gone too far? Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor are at it again. Two remarkable performances as Peter Ustinov directs them in a film that will leave you with no doubts... it is much saner in the asylum than out.
