Synopsis

For one man crime was a way of life, For the other... a means of survival.
Cramped in the putrid, foul-smelling labyrinth of sewers, an expert team of daring and highly trained professionals are ready for action. Months of painstaking planning and precision timing has led expert safe-cracker Mike Daniels (Albert Finney) to this crucial moment. His reluctant yet highly qualified recruit is Stephen Booker (Martin Sheen), a leading architect reduced to crime by business failure - and expensive dabbling in design and antiques by his high-spending wife, Dinah (Susannah York). These two unlikely partners cleverly and cautiously prepare to extract a fortune in money and gems from the 'burglar-proof' vault of one of the world's largest and safest holding banks. But before they can even start to hack, burn and explode their way into the vaults and many other dangers have to be met. Disasters such as poisonous gas which wafts silently and fatally through the dank, dark tunnels. And then come the rains. A torrent of water pouring down from the flooded streets above; rushing through the sewers with the force of an express train, bringing the threat of death and mutilation as it swirls and twists its way ever forward into their path...
