Synopsis

It took him 20 years to find out who he was and 2 laps to let the world know.
Anyone with a love of stock car racing is certain to place this film in the 'must see' category! Jeff Bridges plays a North Carolina backwoods boy, who is crazy about cars and delights in outwitting the police as he delivers moonshine whisky for his father. When his father is arrested and sentenced to a year in jail he enters a demolition derby to help pay the legal fees. With a lethal battering ram fitted to this car he wins. His success lead to his participating in stock car racing where he learns that compromises are not only needed to win on the racing circuit but also in life. Brilliant location work and car racing sequences (all filmed in Virginia and the Carolinas) make this a great film to remember and a great all-action movie. Valerie Perrine co-stars and the talented supporting cast is headed by Ned Beatty, Geraldine Fitzgerald and Gary Busey. The direction is by lamont [sic] Johnson.
