Synopsis

LITTLE MISS MARKER is a colourful romantic comedy set in the 1930's with the loveable and outrageous characters Damon Runyon created with such humour and affection. Sorrowful Jones (Walter Matthau) is a stingy, down-at-heel bookie and confirmed bachelor who becomes involved with ......Amanda (Julie Andrews) a lovely socialite, down on her luck, who finds herself partnering Sorrowful in an illegal gambling house. ...Blackie Ryan (Tony Curtis), the local mobster, who wants $50,000 from Sorrowful to invest on his behalf. ..."The Kid", (Sara Stimson) a six year old girl, who end's up as Sorrowful's charge after he accepts her as security marker for losing a $10 bet. Written for the screen by Walter Bernstein ("He's the best screenwriter in America" says Matthau), who also makes his debut as director, LITTLE MISS MARKER is a whimsical, free-wheeling entertainment with love and innocence unashamedly triumphing over all.
