Synopsis

A love story of hatred
Sheila Smith (BRENDA SYKES) is cool, common, black and 17. Her 'far out' behaviour is her way of putting down the values of her middle class background. Wayne Divine (JOHN NEILSON), a Senior at Putney High, a mid-west school, is white, hip (he thinks), and also cool. Wayne's week-end work makes him the owner of a 55 Ford and under the influence of Sheila they drive into the city and buy a kilo of grass. "We'll triple our money, man" she promises. A quarrel on the way back leads them to Sheila's friend Sharon (MAIA DANZIGER), who is on a baby-sitting assignment, which has developed into a big necking and beer-bust party with several fellow students. On their way home they are involved in a collision and are persued [sic] by the police - and eventually, still stoned on pot, they abandon the car. They are accosted by a couple of country toughs who offer them a lift. Their offer is laced with heavy sexual implications which they manage to evade. As the toughs drive off one hollers back "See you again, you sweet little nigger". Subsequently the couple quarrel violently. The quarrel is interrupted by the return of the toughs. A bloody battle ensues in which Wayne is beaten unconscious and Sheila is raped by the heavies. When Wayne regains consciousness, he and Sheila can only stare at other in mute understanding, their innocence irrevocably lost.
