Synopsis

An intriguing crime story that is also a searing social document. Dirk Bogarde plays an eminent barrister who puts a happy marriage and a brilliant career at risk by revealing his homosexual past. He does it to thwart the blackmailers whose threats have caused the death of one oi his former friends. His quest to unmask the vicious criminals leads him into a twilight world of well-known actors, hairdressers, photographers, and the aristocracy. Made at a time when homosexuality was still a criminal offence, the film is a hard-hitting and brave indictment of a cruel social injustice.
