Synopsis

THE CATAMOUNT KILLING portrays the downfall of an ambitious man and a frustrated woman, and the lengths to which they will go to escape from the emptiness of their lives. Thrown out by his wife and transferred by her father to a remote branch office, Mark Kalvin (Horst Bucholz) arrives in Catamount, Vermont, to become manager of the sleepy town's bank. Here he meets Kit Loring (stunningly portrayed by Ann Wedgeworth). Deserted by her husband, with her daughter Iris (Louis Clark) to raise and a boarding house to run, she is a lonely, embittered woman, trapped in this isolated village with no hope of ever escaping back to the bright lights and big cities she once knew. Together they seize on the quarter of a million dollar highway payrolls as their once chance to break away from the prison of this small town and their own small lives. The couple stop at nothing to achieve their goals, the story continues through murder and extortion culminating in suicide.
