Synopsis

"The fastest in the West with Gun and Bull whip. He was more dangerous with the whip than most men with Guns…"
WYATT EARP

"Outa' the whole bunch of them if I had to pick the fastest I would have had real problems. There is therefore one man that stands out in my mind. I have seen him gun down two men in almost the same instance. He seems to be faster than death itself.
He used to carry round this er [sic] bull's whip and would rather use it than his gun. I seen him use this whip, he was real good, more dangerous with it than most men were with guns. As well as being able to kill he must have had almost magical luck to be able to survive. I really don't think he cared if he lived or died, maybe he thought he was immortal, some sort of God. I used to think that, sometimes, when l was younger, Ya' I have seen him laugh right into the face of death even l never did that. He scared the hell out of me he did. His name was Chard Stark…"
Wyatt Earp in an interview with a biographer whilst talking about the gunfighters he has known. Chicago 1923.
