Synopsis

A ribald look at life in Britain's conscript army of the 50's, and how our 'Virgin Soldiers' spent two years defending King and Country. Take Private Brigg, for example, when he's not filing in forms or engaging the Malaysian bandits, he's out on manoeuvres with a Chinese dance-hall girl named Juicy Lucy. She is supposed to be a lady of easy virtue but, to Brigg's delight, she proves to be a lady of no virtue at all. Brigg also sets out on that most dangerous of all military operations - an affair with the Sergeant Major's daughter. Leslie Thomas' best-selling novel is brilliantly re-created for the screen by producer Carl Foreman with Hywel Bennett energetically portraying the private's part on active service. Feminine charms are provided by Lynn Redgrave as the RSM's daughter and Tsai Chin as the very Juicy Lucy.
