Synopsis

'"Take Ian Heaps off fresh water and put him on the open sea and he will be totally lost!"

So Ian takes up the challenge and goes to Westport, Co. Mayo and Clifden, Co. Galway where he is joined by local expert Rory Daly and Sea Angling Journalist John Darling. The quarry is a 100) pound skate.

After showing how best to catch mackerel for bait the first of two methods — fishing over a sandy bottom at anchor — is thoroughly explained and demonstrated, Not only does Ian learn a thing or two — but Rory Daly is shown something new: John's up tide boat casting technique.

At Clifden we see the second method demonstrated — fishing over reefs and rough terrain. Rory Daly is keen to try john Darling's technique of jigging with lures and it is fascinating to compare the different approaches of the two men.
