Antonio Lenzini (Adolfi Celi), a rich North Italian Industrialist, has taken for his second wife a very lovely woman if 35. After seven years of matrimony with Laura (Carroll Baker) he can no longer communicate sexually her, even if his love for her is always deep and vibrant. Antonio's son Claudio returns from abroad and inevitably a relationship grows between Claudio and Laura. This love story makes Laura reflect and she sees the uselessness of continuing to live with Antonio, sees that this marriage has failed. She also realizes she has no future with the young Claudio. It is a young girl who makes Laura understand that nowadays women are different, independent, that she can very well live alone without sentimental dramas, and when a relationship does not work any longer, doing without a man.
